IGS, the leading agritech business takes another strategic step forward as it welcomes on board vertical farming specialist and industry veteran Gonçalo Neves.

Gonçalo will join the team to focus on business development opportunities across key geographies and customer markets. Portuguese-born Gonçalo has been working and studying vertical farming across leading organisations in Europe and the UK for the past twelve years. Most recently he was Director of Hardware at InFarm and prior to that he was CTO at OneFarm. He has attended and supported courses in Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) across leading academic institutions including Aalto University, University of Amsterdam and Wageningen University.

One of his major areas of focus is lighting and he has been instrumental in reviewing and implementing disruptive lighting strategies to enhance the capabilities for growing afforded by the evolving technical innovations.

At IGS, Gonçalo will be responsible for finding, activating and developing data-driven strategies between products and new market segments, such as seed and breeding and plant-based pharmaceuticals. He will work closely with the sales, product and senior management teams to help support the identification and delivery of high-growth, scalable and sustainable business opportunities.

On his appointment Gonçalo commented: “I have known IGS for its innovative Total Controlled Environment Agriculture system for some years. I believe it is the most scalable, sustainable and intelligent vertical farming system that I have come across in my 12-year career in the Agritech industry. The vision, honesty, work ethic, and commitment to collaboration stands out to me in this business. Today, it is with great pleasure and honour that I join this outstanding team to help drive business development.”

CEO David Farquhar said: “Gonçalo is both well known in the industry and has a wealth of knowledge to support that. He has chosen to come and work with IGS as he believes in our purpose, our technology and our focus on addressing the challenges this industry faces as it attempts to deliver sustainable, healthy food production to a rapidly growing global population. We are excited and pleased to have him on board.”
