Say hello to
Phil Butlin
I grew up in Cardiff before moving to Bristol to study for an MSci in Biology. At Bristol, I developed an interest in plant photobiology and how it can be utilised to optimise crop growth in agriculture. This led me to pursue a PhD in plant sciences at the University of Edinburgh, focusing on plant responses to shade. I maintained an interest in controlled environment agriculture throughout my PhD and followed my studies with an interdisciplinary research position in collaboration with IGS, before moving permanently in 2024. Outside of work, I’m an avid cook and keen on all things sport, particularly football.
